Arsenal vs Everton LIVE: Premier League result, latest updates and fan reaction

LIVE: Arsenal vs Everton - (Arsenal FC via Getty Images)

Arsenal vs Everton LIVE

A huge eight days in Arsenal’s season began on Saturday evening with a vital Premier League victory over Everton. It is officially the business end of the campaign and the Gunners are still competing on all four fronts, though hopes of winning an unprecedented quadruple will become clearer over the next week with two more difficult fixtures to navigate before the international break.

Mikel Arteta’s side beat Everton 2-0 today thanks to late goals from Viktor Gyokeres and Max Dowman. Attentions now turn to Bayer Leverkusen in a Champions League decider on Tuesday before doing battle with Manchester City for the first piece of silverware on offer this season in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium next Sunday.

Victory for Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium means they have opened up a ten-point gap at the top of the Premier League table before Man City have the chance to respond against West Ham later tonight. Follow the game back below with our dedicated match blog, featuring expert insight and analysis from Matt Verri at the ground.

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

19:21 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

A huge moment in the title race! Dowman it was who makes the different with a brilliant inswinging cross. Hincapie keeps it alive and Gyokeres can't miss from there. What a noise when that went in.

GOAL! Arsenal 1-0 Everton | Viktor Gyokeres ‘90

19:21 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

90 min: ARSENAL LEAD!

Dowman picks out Hincapie at the back post with a fine cross and the ball drops kindly fopr Gyokeres and he has the simplest of chances.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

19:18 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

87 min: Eze with a lovely slide-rule pass for Martinelli but the Brazilian overhits his cross into the box.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

19:16 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

86 min: Huge groans from Arsenal fans as Eze hesitates, loses possession and then conceded a free-kick. This allows Everton to make a double change with McNeil and Iroegbunam making way for Armstrong and Rohl.

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

19:14 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Forget the fact he's 16, Arsenal need to keep getting the ball to Dowman. Looks the most likely to make something happen. Martinelli on the other flank is miles off the pace, and Saka and Eze aren't quite at it centrally. Dowman has looked a massive threat already.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

19:14 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

83 min: Everton creeping further up the pitch following a period of defending. Get the sense they fancy something late on but Rice makes a superb tackle on Dewsbury-Hall.

At the other end, a chance opens up for Dowman but he can’t keep his effort down.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

19:08 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

78 min: Pickford, finally called into action, beating away Eze’s shot from distance.

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

19:07 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Here is Dowman. Saka at No10, Eze dropping deeper alongside Rice and Dowman on the right in these final 20 minutes or so. Time for the kitchen sink.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

19:05 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

75 min: Gabriel with a shot from range, but it dribbles wide of the post. Pickford was never in danger there.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

19:04 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

73 min: CHANCE!

Keane attacks Garner’s free-kick but the ball takes a nick off Mosquera and goes behind - though Arsenal get the goal kick.

Arteta rolls the dice now as Dowman and Hincapie replace Calafiori and Zubimendi.

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

19:02 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Martinelli and Gyokeres have offered absolutely nothing so far since coming on so at what point does Arteta turn to his final changes? Jesus and Dowman the obvious candidates in this push for a goal. Does feel like it's worth a go chucking Dowman at this. Capable of a special moment.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

18:58 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

68 min: Mykolenko does well to win a corner off Mosquera. Everton nearly scored from their last one of these and they threaten again but Arsenal get bodies in the way.

Change follows with Barry replacing Beto.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

18:54 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

64 min: CLOSE!

Lovely strike from Eze after a deft flick from Rice but the Arsenal No10’s effort is just wide of the far post. Pickford did look beaten.

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

18:53 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Could Arteta have maybe kept Madueke on? He's looked dangerous since half-time in running at his man. Instead it's like-for-like changes from Arteta again, with Martinelli and Gyokeres introduced.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

18:51 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

61 min: Chance for Arsenal as Calafiori’s looped header finds Saka and his shot is parried by Pickford but none of his team-mates gambled and Garner is able to clear.

Double change for the Gunners as Madueke and Havertz make way for Martinelli and Gyokeres.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

18:50 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

59 min: Another Arsenal corner, taken short by Saka to Madueke and then eventually to Eze who has a shot blocked.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

18:48 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

58 min: Long period of sideways passing from Arsenal ends with a corner after Gabriel increases the tempo. Rice takes but Keane heads away and there’s some hesitation in the box from Mosquera.

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

18:43 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

This stadium is an absolute cauldron of anxiety right now. Groans when Arsenal play a loose pass, or even when they don't get it forward quickly enough from the fans' point of view.

It's only going to ramp up every minute it stays 0-0...

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

18:43 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

52 min: Arsenal fans on edge after few heavy touches from the players. Now it’s turned to a more supportive tone.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

18:40 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

49 min: SAVE!

From the corner, Beto manages to wriggle free and get a shot away but Raya sticks out a boot and stops Arsenal from conceding.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

18:39 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

48 min: Mosquera loses possession cheaply and Dewsbury-Hall pounces and drives into the area but can’t keep the ball in play. Everton recover possession fairly quickly and force a corner of their own.

Good start to the second half by the visitors.

KICK-OFF!

18:36 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Back underway at the Emirates. Huge second half in store, for both sides.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

The best chances of the half have fallen to Everton, particularly Dwight McNeil.

HALF-TIME

18:20 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

18:19 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Arsenal have had plenty of matches where they've been too cautious, but not sure this is one of them.

Plenty of shots from distance when the space has opened up and they've tried to play those passes through the lines and in behind the Everton defence.

Just not a lot of space out there.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

18:18 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

45+3 min: Saliba tries to force the issue but his pass for Saka is a tad too strong and the ball goes out of play. That sums up the first half for the Gunners.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

18:15 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

45 min: Into FIVE minutes of stoppage time.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

18:14 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

44 min: Rice’s corner brings about three attempts for Saka, Madueke and Eze but none of which are able to test Pickford.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

18:12 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

42 min: Game is stopped for Saliba to be treated for a head injury. Moyes is frustrated on the touchline.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

18:11 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

41 min: Rice is penalised for a shoulder charge on McNeil, handing Everton a free-kick in a promising position. Gunners have been vulnerable from set-pieces in recent weeks and Raya does not convince when coming for the ball, he misses it completely and catches Saliba instead.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

18:08 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

38 min: Calafiori gets the flick-on from Saka’s cross but Keane is on hand to make a vital clearance at the back post.

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

18:08 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Timber signals to the bench and Arsenal quickly get ready to make a change. The Dutchman went down earlier in the match and hasn't been able to recover.

Interesting that Arteta has opted for Mosquera rather than White, who links up so well with Saka.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

18:07 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

37 min: Saka nearly forces a way through but with team-mates waiting for the cut-back, Gana is across to concede a corner.

Early Arsenal change as Timber makes way for Mosquera. The Dutchman was struggling earlier and clearly has not shaken off the knock.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

18:05 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

35 min: Rice takes...and it’s deflected before Everton clear their lines.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

18:04 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

34 min: Gana brings down Saka and Arsenal have a free-kick opportunity a couple of yards from the d. Eze and Rice standing over it, as is Gabriel but he’s unlikely to be in contention to take this.

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

18:02 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Arsenal do not look particularly secure at the back. Everton just played through their press so easily, and then again found space on the edge of the box. Raya forced into action with a sharp save.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

18:01 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

31 min: Eze, in acres of space, takes on the chance to shoot from range but strikes his effort right into his own team-mate Zubimendi and then at the other end, Raya keeps out an effort from Dewsbury-Hall.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

17:59 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

29 min: Referee plays advantage for Arsenal after Rice is bumped off the ball, Saka picks up possession and finds the midfielder but Garner times his tackle in the box to perfection.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

17:57 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

27 min: Another warning for Arsenal as Gueye bursts into the box and flashes a dangerous ball across the face of goal, just evading two of his Everton team-mates.

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

17:55 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Havertz went down too easily, but good to see Eze playing that kind of through ball into the striker.

Arsenal's attack can be a become a bit of a horseshoe - those are the passes they need more of.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

17:54 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

24 min: Eze slides in Havertz and he takes the ball into his stride but goes down in the box. No penalty given despite the Arsenal forward’s appeals. VAR agree with the on-field decision.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

17:52 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

22 min: Arsenal look to build down the right but the attack breaks down as Saliba gets too much on his cross and the ball goes behind for a goal-kick.

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

17:49 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Wow. Arsenal have been completely dominant but they are so lucky not to be behind. Midfield just disappeared as McNeil drove towards goal and it's a brilliant effort, smacking off the post.

Calafiori made an absolutely incredible block a minute earlier.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

17:48 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

17 min: CHANCE!

Everton nearly take the lead, not once but twice!

Firstly, McNeil has an effort blocked by Calafiori from close range and then he bends an effort right onto the post with Raya beaten.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

17:45 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

15 min: Eze with a wild snatch at goal after being teed up by Havertz. Arsenal fans not happy as they believe Keane wiped out Madueke but the Everton defender is not penalised.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

17:43 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

13 min: WHAT A SAVE!

It doesn’t matter but Pickford with a stunning stop to keep out Saka’s header from close range. The Everton keeper looked rather disappointed at seeing the offside flag raised.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

17:41 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

11 min: Very strong start from Arsenal, Madueke does well down the left and his cross into the box finds Zubimendi whose shot is blocked, Saka picks up the rebound but drags his shot wide.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

17:39 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

9 min: Zubimendi with an impressive juggling act inside the box after Gabriel’s knockdown, teeing up Calafiori who can’t keep his effort underneath the crossbar.

Matt Verri at Emirates Stadium

17:38 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

There does feel a nice balance to the Arsenal attack here.

Often they can be very reliant on the right wing and Saka, but with Calafiori and Madueke on the left there is plenty to keep the Everton defence thinking about. Good early signs.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

17:36 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

6 min: Arsenal get a free-kick and restart very quickly but O’Brien comes across and gets to the ball before Havertz to concede a throw-in which ultimately leads to an Arsenal corner.

It’s played short to Madueke who forces a routine save from Pickford.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

17:33 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

3 min: Madueke lining up on the left for Arsenal, with Saka on the right and Eze operating in the No10 role behind Havertz.

Arsenal 0-0 Everton

17:31 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

1 min: Very nervy start for Arsenal following an unorthodox kick-off from Everton and then Rice is momentarily down in pain after an accidental clash with Iroegbunam.

Victory for Arsenal will heap pressure on Manchester City ahead of their game against West Ham as the gap at the top of the table would be ten points.

Everton, though, are in fine form away from home and can move into the European qualification contention with a shock win.

Most of the team news focus has been on that front four, but interesting to see how Calafiori does back in the side.

Hincapie has been brilliant at left-back recently but Calafiori offers something really unique in the final third. Should make Arsenal a bit more unpredictable in attack.

Viktor Gyokeres’ first-half penalty, awarded after Jake O’Brien bizarrely handled the ball with both arms above his head, was enough to earn Arsenal victory over Everton when the two sides met on Merseyside earlier in the season.

Interestingly though, both games involving Arsenal and Chelsea in the capital will, unusually, kick-off at the same time today.

Pep Guardiola reveals title race fear

16:05 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Pep Guardiola has warned that his Manchester City cannot afford to drop any more points in the Premier League title race.

Man City face West Ham on Saturday and will know the result of Arsenal’s game against Everton prior to kick-off at the London Stadium.

City begin the weekend seven points behind the leaders, having played one match fewer than the Gunners, after being held to a 2-2 draw by Nottingham Forest in their last league outing.

While Man City will attempt to overturn a three-goal deficit against Real Madrid in next week’s Champions League last-16 second leg, Guardiola claims if his side drop points against West Ham then the title race will be “over”.

Arsenal game-changer to solve main Mikel Arteta problem in trophy hunt

16:00 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

It is March, Arsenal are still in the quadruple hunt, and yet have not had a forward player in consistent goalscoring form this season for more than about two weeks at a time, writes Matt Verri.

Leandro Trossard was impressive earlier in the campaign but has faded badly. Bukayo Saka has been well off his best. Gabriel Martinelli has delivered numbers in the cups but not all-round performances.

Through the middle, Viktor Gyokeres is as much a source of bemusement as goals and Gabriel Jesus has done little to suggest he should be leading the line.

To say Arsenal need a leader of the attack, then, is an understatement. Kai Havertz is not necessarily the guaranteed scoring machine to fire them to multiple trophies but it is essential they keep him fit.

More on that here!

Mikel Arteta hits back at Arsenal critics

15:55 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Mikel Arteta dismissed the idea Arsenal are outliers in how they approach matches, insisting football has evolved across Europe and will continue to do so.

The Gunners are top of the Premier League by seven points and are still fighting on all four fronts, but have faced criticism for their style of play and how many of their goals have come from set-pieces.

Arsenal's next four matches are all in different competitions, with the next week offering an opportunity to end their trophy drought in the Carabao Cup and also book their place in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Arteta's side have continued to pick up results without being entirely convincing in attack, grinding out wins, and the Arsenal manager made no apologies for doing so.

Everton on the road

Everton have the fourth best away record in the Premier League this season, with 24 of their 43 points coming on the road.

Only Leeds, Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea have beaten Everton at home so far in the league and the Toffees have picked up wins at Old Trafford, St. James' Park and Villa Park.

Predicted Arsenal XI

15:45 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Mikel Arteta might be tempted to freshen up his side after an unconvincing display in Leverkusen.

Kai Havertz scored the equaliser off the bench on Wednesday night and could potentially get the nod to start at No10 over Eberechi Eze, having previously shown signs of a positive relationship with Viktor Gyokeres.

Riccardo Calafiori is an option to come in at left-back in place of Piero Hincapie, who has played a lot of games recently.

Predicted Arsenal XI: Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Zubimendi, Rice; Saka, Havertz, Martinelli; Gyokeres.

Arsenal at a crossroads as pivotal period in quadruple hunt begins

15:40 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Rarely have Arsenal found themselves at quite so significant a crossroads, writes Matt Verri.

There has been no shortage of weeks billed as pivotal in the desperate bid to end a 22-year wait for the Premier League, hyped up as tests of the team's mentality and whether they have what it takes.

The next eight days, though, really will shape the direction Arsenal's season will go in. Crunch time has arrived.

Score prediction

15:20 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Every game is must-win for Arsenal at this point in their bid to be crowned Premier League champions for the first time in over 20 years.

That result at Brighton and subsequent draw for Man City at home to Forest has created a little buffer for Mikel Arteta’s side, but they can’t afford to get complacent.

Facing an Everton team that is so strong away from home should be enough to concentrate the minds of the Arsenal players and we expect them to grind out another win, thus putting pressure on City to respond.

Arsenal to win, 2-0.

Arsenal team news

Arsenal will make a late call on the potential involvement of Martin Odegaard and Leandro Trossard against Everton.

Gunners captain Odegaard has not featured since returning off the bench with an assist in the north London derby drubbing of Tottenham last month.

Trossard, meanwhile, was substituted in last week’s 2-1 win at Mansfield in the FA Cup fifth round with a knock and did not make the squad for Wednesday night’s Champions League last-16 first-leg draw with Bayer Leverkusen as a result, despite being back in training at London Colney on the eve of the game.
