Arsenal could make a huge statement in the January transfer window, as the Gunners reportedly contact Real Madrid over Arda Guler.
Arsenal Contact Real Madrid Over January Transfer
According to reports, Mikel Arteta’s side have made contact with the Turkish international as Guler is yet to find his feet in the Spanish capital.
The move would see Guler join the Gunners on a temporary loan move and if all goes to plan Arsenal would make the deal permanent later on.
Arsenal, who were one of the favourites to win the Premier League on UK betting sites, currently sit nine points behind the league leaders Liverpool, after losing to Bournemouth, Newcastle and drawing with Chelsea.
These poor results means adding to their squad seems inevitable and a move for Guler could be smart for both parties.
The teenager joined Madrid from Fenerbahce in 2023 after establishing himself as one of the brightest prospects in Europe – but has found it difficult at the Bernabeu.
So far in the 2024/25 campaign, the 19-year-old has started just three matches and in his 12 appearances he has failed to contribute with a single goal/assist.
However, his form for his national side has kept Guler’s stocks high, especially after contributing to three goals in six appearances at Euro 2024.
Reports suggest that the Turkish star is unhappy at Carlo Ancelotti’s Madrid and has alerted a variety of top clubs in Europe.
Arsenal are one of the front-runners to land the teenagers signature and deploy a tactic they used to sign Martin Odegaard in 2021.
This would be Arsenal’s first piece of transfer business without their former sporting director, Edu, who is currently on gardening leave for six months after leaving the club in early November.
Edu took the role in north London in July 2019 and received huge praise for playing a major part in Arsenal’s progression under Mikel Arteta.
Guler’s deal in Madrid does not expire until 2029, meaning if he joins the Gunners on loan and puts in star performances – he could cost up to £50 million.
