Arsenal transfer news: Alvaro Morata '£25m offer' as Granit Xhaka sends clear message

Amid Arsenal's continued search for a striker, there are many names in the mix for a move to the Gunners. Alexandre Lacazette's contract is set to expire in the summer and the club will be looking for an experienced name to replace the Frenchman who has been captaining the side as of late.

Alvaro Morata - currently at Juventus on loan from Atletico Madrid and formerly of Chelsea - continues to be linked with a potential switch to the Emirates while there is also speculation Benfica star Darwin Nunez is a target.

Mikel Arteta and Edu will be hoping that a Champions League spot will make Arsenal a more attractive prospect for potential signings and here we take a look at the latest transfer news and rumours:

Morata links resurface with Juve future in doubt

Arsenal have reportedly drawn up a three-man shortlist to replace Lacazette and plan to sign two strikers in the summer.

This has led to speculation that Arteta could approve a move for Morata, with the Spaniard's future in doubt after an indifferent two year loan spell at Juventus from Atletico Madrid. Il Corriere dello Sport suggest that the Gunners could be prepared to offer up to €30 million (£25m) for the 29-year-old.

The Spaniard could, however, be adverse to a return to the Premier League after an unsuccessful two year stint at Chelsea where he scored 24 goals in 72 appearances.

Xhaka hints at Arsenal stay amid continued Mourinho interest

Ever since Jose Mourinho began his Roma career, he has seemingly kept one eye on Granit Xhaka in a bid to bring the Swiss central midfielder to Serie A. The former Chelsea and Spurs boss failed in a move last summer to acquire the 29-year-old but the interest remains with a fresh bid expected in the summer.

However, Xhaka, who penned new terms last year after a difficult spell, has become a favourite of Arteta in defensive midfield alongside Thomas Partey. This would make any departure to a club outside of the Champions League, as Roma look set to be next season, as surprise.

Xhaka appears to have reaffirmed this in a recent column for the Players Tribune. He said: “Arsenal is still in my heart, 100%." He added: “My challenge was never to change people’s opinions about me, but to help the team. And then after that, if someone did change their mind because of that, then great."

He went on to explain his reasoning behind wanting to stay at the Emirates: “Sometimes, maybe I care too much. Obviously you can never predict the future in football, but I do know a few things. After this season, I have two years left of my contract. I still love this club. I believe Mikel is building a great team. And I want to achieve something special here.”
