Arsenal told to sign Graham Potter favourite as Edu looks to keep Mikel Arteta transfer promise

Arsenal have been told to complete the signing of Graham Potter favourite Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton. Technical director Edu is said to be in the market for a new attacker as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his frontline.

The 23-year-old, who sees his contract at the Amex Stadium expire in 2023, has featured six times for the Seagulls in the Premier League this season, directly contributing towards four goals. Mac Allister's impressive displays have steered Brighton into the top-four, with the Argentina international currently one of the country's most in-form forwards.

He's hardly been linked with a move away from the south coast but, following the abrupt departure of former boss Potter to Chelsea, the Argentine could soon reconsider his options as he attracts interest. And Arsenal have been encouraged to swoop in and bring to Mac Allister to the Emirates Stadium before a bidding war is ignited.

Speaking to Lord Ping, Emmanuel Petit suggested the Brighton talisman as an option Arteta should consider heading into the January transfer window. The former Chelsea and Arsenal star said: "Not signing Arthur Melo isn't a big miss for Arsenal.

"I know they were looking for that link between the midfield and striker and if I were Edu [the technical director], I'd make an offer for Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton - I really like him."

While Brighton are currently in the Champions League qualification places, they are without their long-standing boss who was said to be the tactical mastermind behind their success. So, if it's any consolation, Arsenal have been tipped as Premier League title contenders, which could swing in their favour should listen to Petit and try sign Mac Allister.

The former France international said: "Right now, Arsenal are first in the league so I would say they are genuine title contenders. They have improved over the last few seasons, but they still need to improve against the top teams.

"They need to learn to convincingly beat top teams," Petit added. "We're seeing things in this Arsenal squad that we haven't seen before. Maturity, character and personality and so for them to be able to beat the best teams in the division is the last stop for Arsenal."
