Arsenal to look internally as search begins for new U23 and U18 managers after Kevin Betsy exit

Arsenal have begun the process of searching for new Under-23 and Under-18 head coaches and are prepared to look internally for replacements.

The Gunners need to fill both positions after U23s boss Kevin Betsy on Monday left to take charge of League Two side Crawley Town, taking U18 coach Dan Micciche with him to be his assistant.

The recruitment process to replace them is already underway and it is understood Arsenal are open to promoting from within to fill the role.

Given it is the off-season, Arsenal have time to search for the right candidate before appointing them ahead of the new season.

Betsy had a solid season in charge of Arsenal last year, guiding them to third place in the Premier League 2 Division 1. Prior to that he had been working in Fulham’s academy before being headhunted by the FA to work with England’s youth teams.

Arsenal's executive team will look for his and Micciche’s replacement, with academy manager Per Mertesacker leading the process.

“We’re grateful for the work Kevin and Dan have done to manage and develop our Under-23s and Under-18s,” said Mertesacker on Monday.

“Both have shown outstanding coaching ability so it’s no surprise they’re heading into first-team management in the EFL.

“This is a great opportunity for them, and on behalf of everyone at Arsenal, I’d like to thank them for their service and wish them the very best of luck in the future.”
