This season, Arsenal have played Ben White, naturally a centre-back, at right-back in an overhaul of Mikel Arteta's playing style. The decision has ultimately paid off and has left Takehiro Tomiyasu on the bench.
The Japan international has played 31 times this season but has only started 13. His season came to an end last month after sustaining an injury to his right knee in the Europa League exit to Sporting CP.
Tomiyasu also missed nine games last season between February and April with a calf injury. With Cedric Soares' imminent future in north London seeming to be elsewhere, sporting director Edu Gaspar may delve into the market for a new deputy.

One player who has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium is Galatasaray's Sacha Boey. The 22-year-old has caught the eye of some of Europe's top clubs with his performances in Turkey after moving from Rennes in 2021.
According to Turkish outlet Haberturk, the Gunners sent scouts to watch the defender in action against Adana Demirspor. Boey played the full 90 minutes as Okan Buruk's men extended their league at the top of Super Lig table.
The former France youth international is said to be in talks with Galatasaray over extending his current contract, which is set to expire in 2025. However, Boey has recently gone on record to admit he may leave at the end of the season.
"I experience the lows, the highs," he told L'Equipe. "My performance is consistent now. I think it's time to turn a corner but we'll see at the end of the season depending on what happens."
