Gabriel Jesus' omission from Brazil's squad to face Ghana and Tunisia later this month came as a shock to many. The Arsenal forward has been a favourite under Brazil manager Tite, racking up 56 caps for his country under the 61-year-old.
The likes of Roberto Firmino, Antony and Richarlison will represent their country this month, while Jesus will remain in London with the Arsenal players who are not on international duty. However, Jesus' absence from the squad shouldn't cause alarm, with Tite using September's friendlies as an opportunity to give minutes to players who are on the periphery of his squad.
Jesus is almost guaranteed to go to the World Cup in Qatar in November, and former Brazil striker Luis Fabiano is backing the Gunners striker to lead the line for Tite's side. Brazil have plenty of options to play up front, including Firmino and Richarlison, as well as Neymar, Matheus Cunha and Flamengo striker Pedro - but Fabiano believes Jesus is best suited to the role.
The 25-year-old has scored three goals and claimed three assists in his first six appearances for the Gunners. At the last World Cup, Jesus led the line for Brazil, starting all five of their games as they made the quarter-finals - but received criticism after failing to score a goal in the competition.
"I'd put Gabriel Jesus, for the moment," Fabiano told Gazeta Esportiva. "He's playing very well at Arsenal, showing confidence, strength and scoring goals."
