Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun has revealed the reason why he decided to commit his international allegiance to the USMNT over England.
Balogun was included in B.J Callaghan's squad for the upcoming international fixtures in the Nations League and CONCACAF Gold Cup this month. It is the first time the 21-year-old has been called-up after confirming his intention to represent in May.
The forward's future at Arsenal remains unclear, with reports suggesting his intention is to leave the club permanently this summer after an impressive season in France. Balogun has scored 20 Ligue 1 goals for Stade Reims, sittingonly behind Kylian Mbappe, Jonathan David and Alexandre Lacazette in the goalscorer charts.

Balogun has one more game remaining with Reims before he heads off to America to prepare for the Nations League semi-final against Mexico on Friday June 16.
Following his inclusion in Callaghan's squad, Balogun has explained why he decided to choose the USMNT in an interview with CBS Sports' Morning Footy show. "There were numerous conversations [with friends and family]. There were things that needed to happen before we could reach this stage, but my family were super encouraging," he said.
"They really, really wanted me to represent the USA and when I made the final decision, we were all just so delighted. We were really looking forward to what the future holds.
"There were many reasons, but like you said, specifically it was the connection I felt I had whenever I went back to America. I've been to many different parts, New York especially and there was just a sense of belonging and the connection I had.
"Of course, seeing the team, speaking to different teammates. I really like the project and where it could head. This is just the beginning for US Soccer and I really think it's going to become spectacular in the future."
