Arsenal might have been handed a boost to finally sign Bruno Guimaraes.
With less than a week to go until transfer deadline day, the Gunners are yet to make a single signing and are once again being linked with a move for the Lyon and Brazil midfielder.
Talk of the 24-year-old moving to the Emirates Stadium first emerged in the January transfer window two years ago, although he ended up making the move to France instead.
However, Arsenal have continued to monitor Guimaraes' progress and he has confirmed there was an approach from the north Londoners as recently as the summer.
"Arsenal approached my agent, but there was no offer. My aim, and I made it clear to Juninho, is to win a title with Lyon," he said to Globo via GFFN. "The fans have not had one for a long time. We have the Coupe de France, the Europa League and the league.
"It is difficult with the level that PSG are at, but anything can happen."
With Lyon currently sitting 11th in the Ligue 1 table and already out of the Coupe de France, the Europa League is now their only realistic chance of winning a trophy this season.
But will Guimaraes still be at the club to fulfill his aim?
Well, according to Sky Sports, Arsenal have not given up on trying to sign the Brazilian before the January transfer window closes next week and are aware that he would cost at least €30m (£25.1m).
Given Lyon were reportedly demanding £38m to part company with Guimaraes earlier in the month, this latest development provides Arsenal technical director Edu with a chance to pull off a masterstroke.
If the Gunners are willing to pay the reported £25.1m transfer fee, then the Brazilian will save the club around £13m based on the asking price from just a few weeks ago and boost Mikel Arteta's first-team squad in the process.
In another potential boost for Arsenal, they appear to have the advantage over Paris Saint-Germain when it comes to signing Guimaraes as the midfielder's dream is to play in the Premier League.
"I have always said to my agents that I dream of playing in England, it is the best league in the world, all the matches are close," he revealed when speaking to FoxNews in 2020.
With the January transfer window closing next Monday, there's more than enough time for the Gunners to turn Guimaraes' dream into a reality, but they must act fast.
