Arsenal's next opponents in FA Cup as Eddie Nketiah bags brace vs Oxford

Arsenal will travel to Manchester City in the fourth round of the FA Cup after comfortably beating Oxford United 3-0.

It took time for the Gunners to break down the League One side on Monday night, with Mohamed Elneny eventually breaking the deadlock with a header from close range. Fabio Vieira, who set up the first, provided once again for Gabriel Jesus stand-in, Eddie Nketiah, who rounded the goalkeeper to make it 2-0.

The 23-year-old then bagged a brace, after latching on to Gabriel Martinelli's through ball and delicately dinking the ball home.

City breezed into the next round of the competition by thrashing Chelsea 4-0 at the Etihad on Sunday. The win came courtesy of two goals from Riyad Mahrez, as well as a strike each from Phil Foden and Julian Alvarez and followed a 1-0 victory for Pep Guardiola's side two days before in the Premier League.

The fourth round is scheduled to take place from January 27 to 30. That means the game will fall between Arsenal's home Premier League game against Manchester United on Sunday, January 22 and a trip to Goodison Park to visit Everton on Saturday, February 4.

The match will see the current top two sides in the Premier League go head-to-head. Arsenal are five points clear of City at the moment, with their 0-0 draw against Newcastle last time out allowing Guardiola's side to cut the gap through their 1-0 win over Chelsea.

Arsenal have not played City so far this season, with their most recent meeting coming back on New Year's Day 2022, when Rodri's late goal gave City a 2-1 win in north London. They are due to meet in the Premier League on February 15 – two weeks after the FA Cup game.

Guardiola was full of praise for his side following the second win over Chelsea in just four days. "I have the feeling that we have incredible human beings," he said.

"Everyone realises what we have to do because we know each other quite well, seven years together," he said. "But, when we play at home in this way with this incredible hunger, don’t give them that time to think about it.

"If you give time to [Mateo] Kovacic, Jorginho, [Kalidou] Koulibaly, they contact with Mason Mount and [Conor] Gallagher; [Kai] Havertz can run. When this happens it is because we are alive. The quality of player is there, and when you are a manager you realise something is dropping when these actions, which today we have done, we don’t do it.”
