Every Premier League fixture this weekend has been postponed after the sad passing of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday afternoon. A decision was made on Friday morning, with all EFL fixtures also cancelled.
A Premier League statement read : "At a meeting this morning, Premier League clubs paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. To honour her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation, and as a mark of respect, this weekend's Premier League match round will be postponed, including Monday evening's game."
Arsenal were set to face winless Everton at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, but the game will now be played at a later date in what is already a hectic calendar. Here is when Arsenal's next games are expected to be played in both the Premier League and Europa League.
Premier League
Following the postponement of Arsenal's game against Everton, the Gunners' next scheduled league game, as it stands, is away at Brentford on Sunday, September 18. However, the game is in huge doubt.
Queen Elizabeth II's funeral is set to take place on the same weekend and policing arrangements could be a major issue at the Brentford Community Stadium. Much of the Met Police's focus will be on the funeral, and there may not be enough officers available to police games in London on that weekend, which could lead to a postponement.
Therefore, Arsenal's next Premier League fixture could be against Spurs on October 1, after the first international break of the season. The Gunners are set to welcome Antonio Conte's side to the Emirates for a lunchtime kick-off on the first day of October.
Europa League
The next fixture Arsenal are expected to play is against PSV Eindhoven on Thursday evening. The Gunners are set to welcome the Dutch side to the Emirates for their second group game in the Europa League.
football.london understands that the Metropolitan Police have indicated that they are comfortable for the clash to go ahead. Mikel Arteta's side will prepare in the expectation that they will play against PSV on Thursday, and the Arsenal boss is expected to hold a pre-match press conference on Wednesday.
