Arsenal respond to Darwin Nunez transfer blow as Edu 'opens door' to swap deal

Arsenal will hope that they are just weeks away from securing a Champions League spot next season - with their summer transfer business potentially hinging on whether they're playing in the top European competition or not.

Thursday night's clash against Tottenham will go a long way in deciding that, with Spurs currently in fifth place and four points behind the Gunners. This meaning that a win against their North London rivals would secure Champions League football for the first time since the 2016/17 season.

Here, we take a look at who could be on the Gunners' shopping list with a round-up of the day's transfer news:

Edu responds to Darwin Nunez blow

Whilst Arsenal are one of the clubs to be linked with Benfica forward Darwin Nunez for the most amount of time, it appears that their Premier League rivals have stolen a march on them. According to The Athletic, Chelsea, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are 'leading the race' for Nunez ahead of the summer window.

It is suggested that Benfica are open to a sale but ideally wants a deal wrapped up sooner rather than later so that they can sign a replacement. However, Edu is reportedly looking to add Nunez to the squad, with the Gunners reportedly taken the first steps to persuade Nunez to join Mikel Arteta's project in north London.

As per the Record, Arsenal are on the 'charm offensive' to convince the Benfica man to join the club. The report adds that Arsenal are 'a few steps above' the likes of West Ham United and Newcastle United in pursuit of the 22-year-old.

Gunners open doors to Thomas Partey and Arthur swap deal

According to Spanish outlet AS, Arsenal have ‘opened the door’ for Thomas Partey to leave the club this summer and Juventus are interested in signing him, with Arthur Melo being discussed as part of a potential swap deal.

The midfielder has been impacted by injuries over the past two seasons but he has performed well for Arsenal in his 59 appearances. Arsenal have been keen on bringing in Arthur, and although Fabrizio Romano recently reported that the Gunners have turned their attentions elsewhere, he could be a part of the deal which would see Partey join Juventus.
