Arsenal reignite interest in Barcelona transfer target as release clause bargain revealed

Arsenal have reignited their interest in Spanish wonderkid and former transfer target Ivan Fresneda this summer, according to recent reports. football.london understood that the Gunners were tracking a move for the defender in January, but were not able to agree a move.

The summer window has rolled around and interest has been placed elsewhere, with other transfer targets being addressed first. Chelsea star Kai Havertz made the switch to the Emirates Stadium as the first move in the market, joining for a huge £65million fee to play in midfield.

Declan Rice also looks set to make a move to north London in the coming days, with a deal agreed at a club-record £105million to West Ham. There's a third arrival expected in Jurrian Timber as the versatile defender is nearing a move from Ajax for a fee worth roughly £40milllion.

The Dutch international is expected to cover several positions, able to play at centre-back or at right-back, where he could perform a similar role to Oleksandr Zinchenko and invert into midfield. That leaves questions over where a potential move for Fresneda could fit in.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Gunners are back in the mix to land the 18-year-old full-back after previously focusing their attention elsewhere. Barcelona are also believed to be showing interest in signing Fresneda as part of a push towards signing high potential youth stars.

Both teams have the option of triggering a release clause in his contract, with £17million touted as the price after Real Valladolid's relegation from La Liga. It remains to be seen whether the north London outfit will make such a move though, given their strength in depth.
