Arsenal receive Nottingham Forest response after Southampton thriller

Southampton drew 3-3 against Premier League leaders Arsenal on Friday evening as Nottingham Forest saw one of their relegation rivals pick up a surprising point.

The result could have been even worse for the Reds after the Saints took a 2-0 lead on the night. Southampton also led 3-1 in the closing stages before the Gunners fought back to salvage a point.

Ruben Selles' team remain bottom of the table but Friday's draw now takes them to within three points of Forest. The Reds face a daunting trip to Anfield on Saturday as they look for a rare Premier League away win this season.

Steve Cooper's side play home games against both Southampton and Arsenal before the end of the season as they look to avoid dropping back down to the Championship. The Reds have just seven games remaining to secure their top-flight status for next season.

Here's what Forest fans said on social media after Friday night's game...

George Thurlby: Bizarrely that is a cracking result for us, makes it difficult for Arsenal to win the league from here and could be over before we play them, and draw for Saints keeps them still a win behind us. Probably clutching at some rather long straws.

Andrew: It’s actually quite disheartening that Southampton can go to Arsenal and do that. I can’t see Forest scoring a goal away from home, let alone 3...

ShaneA.NFFC: Hope Cooper was watching that!

Nathan Smith: Right @NFFC your time to show some fight and a lot of heart. Southampton gave their all tonight, now it’s your turn. Leave nothing on the pitch and go for broke!

Hannah Forest: I don't know why I just did a small dance when I saw Arsenal got a late equaliser after going 3-1 down...I mean what does it matter?! Just so we can't finish bottom. Whoopy doo.

Thomas Payne: Terrific game that!! Arsenal bottling it! Harsh on Southampton. Only wish we’d come close to putting in an away showing like that this season… anyone thinking Southampton at home is an easy 3 points needs to think again!

James: Not quite as disaster plus for Forest as it could have been, but it shows we need to give it a go in the remaining fixtures. We can’t sleepwalk our way to survival and Southampton will be fired up now by that result.

Alex: Not the worst result in the world.

MJW_XD: 3-3, perfect result! Arsenal drop points and Southampton don't gain too many on us.
