Arsenal could pounce on the potential signing of Joao Felix in the upcoming January transfer window. But for the Gunners to stand any chance, Mikel Arteta’s side must be in a strong position to finish in the Champions League places ahead of next season, which is already the case as the north London side lead the Premier League table by five points.
The Gunners finished the summer transfer window with just Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah as the forward options going into the season. However, Arsenal’s frontline is now under major scrutiny going into the January window amid a serious knee injury suffered to Jesus during the World Cup.
However, this could be eased in January with the arrival of Felix. It seemed as though the Gunners had seen a breakthrough in negotiations for the Portugal international, but this has now been rebuffed.

According to British journalist Duncan Castles, Atletico Madrid are prepared to let Felix join an English Premier League club on loan next month. The La Liga club are reportedly asking for an £8million loan fee, plus the player’s salary to be paid in full, while there would be no contractual option to buy, with Arsenal quoted as being one of the interested parties.
However, this came before Atletico Madrid’s president provided an update on Felix’s transfer situation. Speaking to Carrusel Deportivo via Fabrizio Romano, Enrique Cerezo said: "In life there’s nothing impossible but it’s normal for Joao Felix to stay at Atlético Madrid."
Despite Gabriel Jesus’ arrival, Edu still needs to add more firepower to Arteta’s options in the upcoming transfer windows. Eddie Nketiah and Jesus will need more goal support from different sources in the team.
Felix has tons of European experience having made 34 appearances in the Champions League and Europa League, and scoring 10 goals in the process. He has already shown that he would be a good alternative option from a goalscoring perspective for the Gunners.
Felix would certainly be a good signing for the Gunners. But, Cerezo’s admission about the forward’s transfer situation could provide a major in Arsenal’s striker hunt.
