Arsenal 'ready' official January transfer bid for Youri Tielemans amid potential Juventus threat

With a mid-season break on the horizon for the World Cup, the January transfer window is right around the corner and offers clubs the chance to strengthen once again. For Arsenal in particular, this could give them the boost they need to make a push in the title race this season.

Gathering nine wins from their opening ten games, the Gunners sit top of the Premier League and have been touted with making a challenge for the championship. Factoring in Europe and a congested schedule due to that World Cup break, there will be the need for rotation, squad depth and a bit of luck when it comes to injuries.

One area of particular concern is the midfield, with one or two potential injuries causing problems for Mikel Arteta to solve. The Spaniard did try to address that in the summer, making a late move for Douglas Luiz that failed on deadline day in the wake of two injuries.

"We have our limitations," the Spaniard said on missing out on the Brazilian. "Time was a big limitation with what happens in the last 72 hours in our midfield and we tried to act but we didn't find the right player."

Since then, the Gunners have coped well with balancing the games thrown their way, though there are still a few more weeks until the break is underway. Before and during then, plans will likely be in action for who the club could look to sign in January to reinforce their ranks.

According to Calciomercato, Arsenal are doing just that as they ready an official bid to send to Leicester City for midfielder Youri Tielemans. The report claims they are eyeing a move in January to beat other sides to his signature, with Juventus named as one of those interested in landing him when his contract expires in the summer.

The Belgian has been a long-term target for the club, though his contract situation prompted them to wait until further down the line to make their move. Should they land him, it could give them an ideal chance to finish the season strongly.
