Arsenal: Pep Guardiola quizzed on Ilkay Gundogan future amid transfer interest

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola insists he is unable to answer questions over Ilkay Gundogan’s future amid serious interest from Arsenal.

Standard Sport understands that Mikel Arteta has made the midfielder a key summer transfer target, with the Gunners hoping to pair the five-time Premier League winner with Declan Rice.

City, and Guardiola, are keen to tie Gundogan down to a new contract, which is currently set to expire at the end of next month. Barcelona have long been interested in signing the 32-year-old on a free transfer.

Quizzed on Gundogan’s future on Tuesday, Guardiola shrugged and said: "I cannot tell you anything I as don't know anything."

Gundogan is not expected to make a decision over his future until after the Champions League Final on June 10.

Guardiola was fielding questions ahead of City’s Premier League clash with Brighton, which comes four days after their third title in a row was confirmed and three days after they lifted the trophy.

City players were allowed to celebrate on Sunday evening, and Guardiola is unsure of the status of his players’ fitness ahead of the game.

“They had a party after the game against Chelsea, I don’t know how they will feel tomorrow but they have to do it,” he added.
