Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke takes step toward NBA milestone to help Mikel Arteta's $250m dream

Stan Kroenke's recent run of success in sport continued on Friday morning with the Denver Nuggets kicking-off their 2023 NBA Finals series with victory over Miami Heat.

The Arsenal owner's USA-based sports franchise is looking to make history by winning their first ever NBA Finals. Under Kroenke's ownership, the Nuggets have emerged as more consistent challengers - winning their division in 2019, 2020 and 2023.

The win puts Denver 1-0 ahead of Heat in the best-of-seven series, which spans 18 days. Should Michael Malone's side come out on top, Kroenke will become the first owner to win all three major North American Sports titles.

In 2021, he helped the Los Angeles Rams win the Super Bowl before his Colorado Avalanche lifted the NHL Stanley Cup a year later. Mixing this in with Arsenal's turnaround in the last 18 months, Kroenke is reaping the rewards for Kroenke Sports & Entertainment's investment in sport.

The Gunners, themselves, are due to be impacted by Kroenke's success in the States. Mikel Arteta will be handed a £200million budget this summer to bolster his squad after their second-place finish in the Premier League.

Since Kroenke became majority shareholder in 2011, the north Londoners have won four FA Cups and four Community Shield titles, but are yet to win England's most coveted trophy.

Should the Nuggets defeat Heat and win the NBA Finals, Kroenke and Co. will inherit a minor influx of cash worth $3.8m (£3.06m). Although the fee is not as much as is gained in football, more money in Kroenke's bank will only aid the Gunners' transfer hopes given the heightened interest in the Nuggets and the commercial rewards that would follow.
