Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke takes key step to secure blockbuster $115m transfer

Arsenal are gearing up for a big summer in the transfer window having lost out on the Premier League title to Manchester City.

The Gunners' 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday sealed City their third Premier League title in a row despite Arsenal holding an eight-point advantage only a couple of months ago. Arsenal will go again next season having hopefully strengthened their ranks with world-class talent.

Mikel Arteta's side are well ahead of schedule having returned to the Champions League for next season and recording their highest finish of the Spaniard's reign with young players coming on and established signings from last summer bedding in quickly. Indeed, Gunners owner Stan Kroenke knows that this summer is pivotal and money will need to be spent to land the players that can push the club on again.

Declan Rice is a top target for Arsenal, with a new midfielder on the agenda having missed out on Brighton & Hove Albion star Moises Caicedo in January. The Express, via the Daily Telegraph, reports that Kroenke has 'signed off' a £92m move for Rice with the owner ready to stump up a lot of the fee up front instead of paying most of the money in instalments.

City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Bayern Munich would all like to sign Rice, but Arsenal could have the edge given their progress this season and location given Rice is from London. West Ham United boss David Moyes, meanwhile, has opened the door for a London Stadium exit for Rice but has stressed it would be on his club's terms.

"We honestly hope he stays," Moyes said. "We'd love for him to be a West Ham player but we are aware that might not be the case at the end of the season, so that's one of the scenarios around plans.

"There are plans that we have Dec here but we're also fully aware there is a good chance we won't have him."
