Arsenal on red alert as Bayern Munich make Serge Gnabry transfer decision amid return links

Arsenal could reignite their transfer interest in Bayern Munich forward Serge Gnabry this summer, having previously been linked with a return to the club. The Germany international spent his formative years at the Emirates Stadium, but eventually secured a move away to the Bundesliga.

This would see him scouted and signed by Bayern soon after, with the perennial Bundesliga champions developing the winger into one of the best in the division. His dwindling contract created plenty of rumours surrounding a return to Arsenal last summer, with previous quotes only adding fuel to the fire.

In an interview with Pro Direct 2019, the forward said he was "always a Gunners" and added: "It was the hardest decision but I think it worked out well because I wanted to play. But as a club, Arsenal are top, top."

A contract extension in mid-July quashed any claims over an exit, but fast forward one-year and the 27-year-old could be on the cusp of an exit once again. According to German outlet BILD, Bayern have put Gnabry up for sale alongside Leroy Sane and Sadio Mane as part of a forward line reshuffle.

The Bundesliga champions are set to undergo a number of changes after their dramatic final day triumph in the division saw them win the league on goal difference. Some backroom changes have already been implemented, while Thomas Tuchel is set to make some changes to the squad.

If that means Gnabry is set to leave, it could reignite interest from Arsenal once more, who are in a far stronger position to land him than last summer. The Gunners are back in the Champions League and have shown they are able to make a sustained push for the Premier League title.

It remains to be seen whether they will make a move, but it could be the extra quality they need in the final third with the added expectation and games on their plate.
