Arsenal news: Transfer priority change as Georginio Wijnaldum talks new club 'integration'

It's been a frustrating January for Arsenal in more ways than one.

On the pitch, the team have let the momentum built up at the end of 2021 slip away, with no goals and no wins in their last four outings.

And off the pitch, the attempts of the club's recruitment team to find an antidote to some of those problems with new signings have also faltered.

There's still time to bring new faces in, but the window is quickly shrinking.

Here are your latest Gunners headlines ahead of a potentially decisive few days for the team.

Wijnaldum speaks out on PSG

Reported Arsenal transfer target Georginio Wijnaldum has lifted the lid on his "integration" into life at Paris Saint-Germain.

After signing for the Gunners on a free transfer, the former Liverpool star struggled to get regular football under Mauricio Pochettino, prompting speculation regarding a potential return to the Premier League.

Arsenal were said to be among those interested, but Wijnaldum has said he believes he's settling in well in the French capital.

"My integration went well," he said. "I arrived at a new club, a new league.

"I learn every day from my teammates and the staff. They all helped me a lot to fit in. "We get to know each other a little more every day. I'm learning French too, it's important for my integration."

Liverpool transfer battle

Arsenal are reportedly ready to rival Liverpool in the chase for PSV Eindhoven starlet Cody Gakpo.

The young winger has excelled in the Eredivisie this season, notching six goals and 10 assists from just 15 appearances.

The 22-year-old's displays have seemingly caught the eye of some of Europe's biggest clubs, with Liverpool and Manchester City both mentioned as possible suitors in recent weeks.

Arsenal are also said to be in the hunt, while Victor Osimhen is also said to have been made the club's top centre-forward target. That's due to Dusan Vlahovic seemingly close to completing a move to Juventus.

Why Chambers was allowed to leave

Arsenal and Aston Villa's agreement for the move of Calum Chambers has surprised everyone as they kept the slightly peculiar deal firmly under wraps.

The England defender has made a handful of appearances for the Gunners this season, but remained a largely unused member of Mikel Arteta's squad.

Arsenal have struggled with injuries this term, and Chambers has provided a fairly safe pair of hands when needed.

But that hasn't stopped Emirates chiefs from booting him out of the door before his contract expired.
