Arsenal news: Mikel Arteta hints at more transfers as he's handed injury boost

Arsenal take on Crystal Palace on Friday night as they get their season under way.

It was Gunners who kicked off the Premier League 12 months ago with a forgettable loss at Brentford and they will now travel to a different London rival in the Eagles. Mikel Arteta will head south with a new look team after several notable summer additions.

The club are targeting the top four after a near miss last term, although there will be plenty of competition. There could yet be more ins and outs on the red half of north London after one of their brightest prospects left on loan to further his development.

Here are the latest headlines from the Emirates.

More deals a possibility

Arteta is still open to more transfer business despite the club being particularly busy over recent months.

Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabio Vieira have all arrived this summer - taking the club's spending to over £100m. There have also been plenty of outs with Alexandre Lacazette and Bernd Leno among those leaving the Emirates - but that might not be the end of it.

The Spaniard said: "We are really active as you can see with ins and outs. Everything is still open, it’s a long window. A lot has happened. It’s incredible how much business the club has already done across the Premier League and it shows how competitive this is. It’s not gonna stop that. Players are going to have to leave, some others to move and everything is open still."

Patino's move away

Gunners youngster Charlie Patino has headed out on loan to Blackpool to further his development.

The midfielder is tipped for big things but opportunities have been at a premium at the Emirates. He scored on his debut in the Carabao Cup against Sunderland whilst he also played in the FA Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest.

A move to Bloomfield Road will allow Patino to get regular minutes in England's second tier. He told Blackpool's website: "This is a great opportunity for me, and I think I’m ready to take this on. It’s the next step of my career and I’m really excited to get going. I spoke to Danny Ballard and Dujon Sterling before coming to the Club and they were full of praise and said it’s an amazing place to be where everybody is welcome.

Arteta's fitness boost

Kieran Tierney, Takehiro Tomiyasu and summer signing Fabio Vieira had all been seen as potential absentees for the season opener against Crystal Palace. It has also been reported that a knock for Emile Smith Rowe was due to rule him out, but Arteta has suggested that he may have more players available that he previously thought.

He said: "Three out of four are gonna be training this afternoon if everything goes well hopefully they are going to be in the squad," the Gunners boss revealed.

"Hopefully we are going to start to recover because they missed a lot of minutes and time in pre-season and they are really important players for us."
