Arsenal news: Mikel Arteta given blunt transfer advice as loanee's dad has furious spat

Arsenal will be licking their wounds ahead of their meeting with Chelsea after Manchester City knocked the Gunners off their perch at the top of the Premier League on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola's side are now in pole position to clinch a fifth domestic crown in six years after seeing off Fulham, leaving them a point ahead of their title rivals with a game in hand.

The Gunners gave up their advantage for the run-in after losing against the defending champions last Wednesday at the Etihad. But they can still apply pressure on City with a positive result against an out-of-sorts Chelsea side in a highly anticipated London derby.

Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest news from in and around the Emirates ahead of Tuesday night's big match...

Arteta given brutal transfer advice

Former Arsenal favourite Paul Merson has urged Mikel Arteta to swallow his pride and pursue a deal for Brentford striker Ivan Toney in the summer.

The Spaniard was visibly less than impressed with Toney following a light-hearted tweet from the prolific striker in footage which aired in the Amazon documentary 'Arsenal: All or Nothing' last year.

However, in the wake of Toney's remarkable form this season, Merson believes that the Londoners should consider raiding the Bees for their star striker, who plundered his 20th Premier League goal of the season in Brentford's last-gasp 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The father of Arsenal starlet Miguel Azeez allegedly became embroiled in a furious bust-up with Wigan Athletic manager Shaun Maloney on Saturday after the Latics were relegated from the Championship.

Azeez, 20, joined Wigan on loan back when Kolo Toure was at the helm but has struggled for minutes since Maloney was appointed as the club's new manager back at the end of January.

And Azeez' father let his frustrations boil over during a remarkable on-field showdown with Maloney shortly after Wigan's relegation from the second-tier had been confirmed, according to reports.

Azeez had a disappointing spell on loan at Spanish outlet UD Ibiza earlier in the season before he was recalled and shipped out to Wigan.

Guardiola sends title message

Pep Guardiola is taking nothing for granted in the title race (PA)

Pep Guardiola refused to get carried away after watching his side reclaim top spot from Arsenal on Sunday.

City edged out Fulham at Craven Cottage to leapfrog the Gunners after their big win over Mikel Arteta's side in midweek - putting them in pole position to reclaim their Premier League crown.

But Guardiola stressed that his side could still drop points during the run-in, just like Arsenal. And he made it clear that nobody at the club would be taking anything for granted ahead of their game in hand against West Ham later this week.
