Arsenal news: Mikel Arteta confirms midfielder's PSV absence as FA confirm Gabriel decision

Your Arsenal morning digest on Thursday. October 27.

Summer signing confirmed to miss PSV trip

Marquinhos has not travelled with the Arsenal squad for Thursday's Europa League clash against PSV Eindhoven, Mikel Arteta has confirmed.

As first revealed by football.london earlier in the day, the £3m summer signing from Sao Paulo was one of four first-team players - alongside Emile Smith Rowe, Mohamed Elneny and Oleksandr Zinchenko - not spotted in the final training session at the club's London Colney base.

It was later reported that the Brazilian was feeling unwell - hence his absence. And it can now be confirmed that it's enough to keep him out of contention to face PSV on Thursday evening with Arteta announcing in his pre-match press conference that the winger has not made the trip to the Netherlands.

"We had Marquinhos who wasn’t feeling well today and didn’t travel," the Arsenal manager told reporters. "For the rest we are OK. We don’t have that many players. Even the players that we have, we are bringing four kids with us so we can make the squad. We need to put 11 players there and they have to play. We cannot always change 10, 11 players every game."

FA confirm decision on Gabriel and Jordan Henderson incident

The FA have confirmed that they will not be taking any disciplinary action over the incident that occurred between Gabriel Magalhaes and Jordan Henderson in Arsenal's 3-2 victory over Liverpool at the start of the month.

Proceedings were briefly put on hold in added time at the Emirates Stadium when referee Michael Oliver ran over to speak to Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp. It is understood that the discussion was regarding an argument that had happened inside the Liverpool penalty are and involved several players.

The FA later confirmed that they were aware of the incident and would review the details, with recent reports insisting Henderson and Gabriel had presented their cases. Both players have since featured for their clubs and a decision from the football governing body has been announced.

A statement on the FA website read: "Following an investigation into an allegation received by The FA in the Premier League fixture between Arsenal FC and Liverpool FC on Sunday 9 October 2022, The FA can confirm that it will not be taking any disciplinary action.

"The FA received a complaint about an incident involving two players in this fixture. As a result of the complaint, The FA conducted a full and thorough investigation.

"The investigation included taking witness statements from the complainant and accused, along with an additional six players who were within proximity of the alleged incident, reviewing multiple angles of video footage, and seeking independent linguistics experts' evidence. None of the witnesses heard the alleged comment, and the player accused strenuously denied the allegation throughout."

Gabriel Jesus addresses goal drought

Gabriel Jesus is currently experiencing his worst form in front of goal since signing for the Gunners from Manchester City for £45 million. The striker has not found the back of net since the 3-1 win over Tottenham at the start of the month.

The 25-year-old missed two big chances against Southampton at the weekend, but he hasn't let his drought in front of goal affect his confidence. Speaking ahead of the trip to PSV today, he said: "I think it’s four games I start and I don’t score.

"That’s happened before and I’m pretty sure in the future it’s going to happen again. So that’s football. I don’t want it to be like this, of course. I want to improve, I want to work, like always in my life and then the next game, I try again. And I’m 100 per cent sure I will score."
