Arsenal news: Mikel Arteta admits Bukayo Saka mistake amid Pep Guardiola meeting

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has hinted he may have made a mistake on the touchline by giving the ball to Bukayo Saka to take a throw-in during the Gunners' 3-2 win over Waterford earlier this month.

The Gunners launched a quick attack after the throw-in thanks to Arteta's assistance – although it has been suggested the manager's interference should have led to the goal being ruled out as he left his technical area to retrieve the ball. And the Arsenal boss has now opened up about the incident and hinted he may have made a mistake.

It comes as Arteta has opened up on having dinner at Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola's house. And Arsenal loanee Lucas Torreira made an incredibly rash decision during Fiorentina's 1-1 draw with Inter Milan on Saturday – by pulling his own tooth out on the pitch rather than leaving the field of play to be treated.

Guardiola meal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has spoken about visiting Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola's house for dinner.

Arteta and Guardiola are believed to be close having both come through the ranks as players at Barcelona. And the pair worked together at City with Arteta becoming Guardiola's assistant in July 2016, a position he held until he left the club to become Arsenal manager in December 2019.

Arteta has now opened up on what it's like to have dinner at his counterpart's house – including what his specialty dish to cook is.

Arteta's 'mistake'

Mikel Arteta has hinted he may have made a mistake in returning the ball to Bukayo Saka when it went off for a throw-in during Arsenal's 3-2 win over Watford.

Saka took a quick throw after Arteta left his technical area to retrieve the ball for him, which allowed Cedric Soares to run behind the Watford backline. The ball was then cleverly worked to Gabriel Martinelli who curled it into the net.

Much has since been made of Arteta's intervention, and the Gunners boss has now admitted though that he doesn't know if "it was the right thing to do".

Torreira's rash move

Lucas Torreira pulled his own tooth out during the middle of Fiorentina's clash with Inter Milan so that he didn't have to leave the pitch to be treated.

The rash move came shortly after Denzel Dumfries cancelled out Torreira's earlier strike for Fiorentina as the Arsenal player's tooth came loose. The player was later spotted with his tooth missing, and a post on social media following the game confirmed it had been removed.
