Arsenal news: Liverpool star rates Gunners’ title chances as Martin Odegaard's role outlined

Arsenal will still be wondering how they walked away from Elland Road with all three points on Sunday but focus must quickly move on to Thursday as they return to Europa League action once more.

However, Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson has rated Arsenal ’s chances of lifting the Premier League table following his own side’s victory over Manchester City on Sunday. Elsewhere, Bukayo Saka’s post-match comments on Martin Odegaard speaks volumes about his bond with the Norwegian as Arsenal’s youngsters continue to shine.

Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest stories coming out of the Emirates Stadium.

Liverpool star rates Arsenal’s title chances

Liverpool defender Robertson has given his thoughts on Arsenal’s title chances following the Reds’ 1-0 victory over second-placed Man City on Sunday, which allowed the Gunners to open up a four-point gap over Pep Guardiola’s side.

Arteta’s outfit have now won nine of their first 10 Premier League fixtures of the season to put themselves within a real chance of achieving something special this campaign, with Robertson acknowledging how impressive they’ve been so far.

He said: "For the last three or four years, it’s always been us and Man City in one and two. Now other teams are getting involved, Arsenal look amazing this season, Tottenham look a different animal, Chelsea are getting going again, Man United. Those teams are trying to close the gap in terms of quality, but we’re too far behind to focus on that just now.”

Arsenal starlet Saka was once again the match winner for the third successive game for the Gunners as he scored the only goal of the game in Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Leeds as they preserved their place at the top of the Premier League.

But the England international was quick to praise teammate Odegaard for providing him with the assist for his first-half strike, while his comments on the Norwegian have spoken volumes about the quality of Arteta’s young squad and the relationship between the pair.

The winger said on Odegaard: “I know the quality Martin [Odegaard] has, so as soon as he had the ball, I tried to be ready to make the run wherever he wanted to give it to me. Luckily I was on the end of it.”

Mikel Arteta’s telling story with Leeds reaction

Arteta’s jubilant reaction at the full-time whistle at Elland Road on Sunday proved just how big Arsenal’s victory over Leeds was.

The result ensured Arsenal kept their winning run going but it also meant they opened up a four-point gap over Man City at the top of the Premier League, with the Spaniard punching the air and hugging his technical staff like they had just won the league because he knew this was a big, big victory.

Arteta’s winning machine so nearly came unstuck at Elland Road and Leeds deserved at least a point for their display, but the Gunners just about held on thanks to a combination of Aaron Ramsdale ’s heroics in goal, Gabriel’s resolute defending, VAR and luck.
