Arsenal news: Dream summer transfer window plotted as Yves Bissouma alternatives considered

Arsenal feel at a crucial point under the leadership of manager Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu.

Regardless of the way in which the Gunners collapsed late last season, a fifth-place finish represented significant improvement and the youth in the squad offer a foundation for future growth. But at the moment, it is only a foundation.

The next phase for Arsenal will be determined not only by how the starlets develop in the coming months and years, but by the recruitment done this summer. The Gunners already have ground to make up on the top four and those sides above them are unlikely to stand still.

Mirror Sport has all of your latest Arsenal news.

Which player should be the Gunners' priority transfer target this summer? Let us know in the comments section below!

Arsenal's dream summer predicted

Although there are significant voids in the current Arsenal squad, at least the areas in need of reinforcement are easy enough to identify.

At centre-forward and in central midfield, Arteta was left with a lack of quality late in the campaign due to injury problems and fluctuations in form. It is in those spots were supporters will be keen to see reinforcements.

The most exciting links in each position are Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus and Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans, two proven Premier League players who look ready for a new challenge next season.

Ben Husband believes the duo would be part of a best-case scenario for the team in the summer market and also looked at the worst way in which the summer window could play out.

Bissouma alternatives considered

Arsenal look set to miss out on particular transfer target this summer, with Yves Bissouma set to join rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

The Mali midfieler has been frequently linked with a move to the Gunners in recent years and with just one season left on his contract on the south coast, he has been expected to move on.

However, it looks as though Spurs will sign the 25-year-old for a knockdown fee of £25 million.

Given Arsenal's problems in central midfield last season, it is imperative the recruitment team finds an alternative. David Alexander Hughes has been looking at some other players who could help fill that void.

Aubameyang reveals Champions League ambition

Former Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has reflected on his first half-a-season at Barcelona and has suggested he is looking forward to playing Champions League football again.

The Gabon international was told to leave Arsenal by Arteta in January and made the switch to the Catalan giants. The decision not to replace the forward left the Gunners short in attack though, which proved costly to the team late in the season.

While Barcelona were far from their best last season, they still did enough to secure Champions League football for 2022-23, something that is clearly key for the striker.

"I look forward to the new season because we have a lot of talent and we are going to enjoy it," he said. "I know it wasn't easy but in the end we're in the Champions League and that's the most important thing. I've given the maximum I could give this year."
