Arsenal news: Declan Rice boost as rivals back off as Thierry Henry makes comeback admission

The season is now long since finished for Arsenal, but attention has now turned to the summer transfer window, which opens for business on Wednesday.

Manager Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu are working hard to get things in place for what promises to be a busy and important window for the Gunners. The top target is West Ham star Declan Rice, who will now be focusing on his future after helping the club secure the Europa Conference League.

Meanwhile, there’s no more rest for Bukayo Saka and Aaron Ramsdale, who have headed to St George’s Park to join up with the England squad.

Here are the latest headlines involving Arsenal from Mirror Football.

Bayern losing hope over Rice

There’s some good news regarding the pursuit of Rice, who has his heart set on Arsenal and will therefore reject Bayern Munich’s approach.

Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel had urged his team to push to sign the West Ham midfielder this summer, but it looks like his interest won’t get him anywhere.

Mirror Football understands that Rice wants to stay in the Premier League, with a move to Arsenal preferred because they can offer Champions League football and means he doesn’t have to move away from London.

Reports in Germany now state that Bayern are resigned to the fact they are not going to get Rice.

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry was at the Champions League final in Istanbul on Saturday night to watch Manchester City beat Inter Milan.

While working for CBS Sport as a pundit the 45-year-old made an eye-catching comeback admission.

“I don’t usually miss the field, I don’t usually look at the game and I’m like. ‘oh, I wish I was there’,” Henry said.

“This is the first time in my life, since I stopped playing football that I looked at a game, being at a game and I was like, ‘I wish I was celebrating’.”

It’s just the two Arsenal players who reported for duty at St George’s Park on Sunday: Saka and Ramsdale.

The two were among the group who turned up to train ahead of the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia.

Lewis Dunk has pulled out through injury, while Jude Bellingham also won’t play, while Rice and the Manchester City contingent are yet to show up after their European exploits.
