The summer transfer window is now officially open allowing Arsenal sporting director Edu to get to work on enacting his plans.
The Gunners are working hard to strengthen Mikel Arteta’s squad, with Declan Rice the number one target. The West Ham captain is currently on international duty with England ahead of their Euro 2024 qualifiers with Malta and North Macedonia – but a deal is still progressing.
Rice is not the only target for Arsenal, however, with further incomings and outgoings on the cards in the coming weeks. The Premier League season is gone and pre-season remains in the future, but there is plenty going on around the club.
Here Mirror Football brings you the latest headlines from Arsenal.
Brighton’s Caicedo ‘fear’
Moises Caicedo came close to joining Arsenal in January and a move is in the offing once again, although the Gunners face competition from Manchester United and Chelsea.
Roberto De Zerbi has already made it clear the club would not stand in his way and Brighton defender Pervis Estupinan outlined the feeling within the camp.
Estupinan knows a departure for his Ecuador team-mate is the most likely outcome and has admitted Brighton will miss his qualities next season. “I think that having a player of Moi’s category, that many teams would like him, we all fear that he will leave us,” he told the Ecuador TV channel.
Smith Rowe gets England call-up
Emile Smith Rowe has been included in the England squad for the upcoming Under-21 European Championship.
The Young Lions travel to Romania and Georgia where they will play Czech Republic on June 22 before further matches against Israel and Germany.
Smith Rowe endured a difficult season with the Gunners, making just 14 appearances in all competitions due to injury. But he will bid to regain his form as a part of Lee Carsley’s squad this summer.
Ex-Gunner Hollins passes way
Former Chelsea and Arsenal star John Hollins has died at the age of 76.
Hollins was best known for his time playing for and managing Chelsea, but also made his mark at Arsenal.
Arsenal wrote in tribute: "We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of John Hollins. Our Player of the Year in 1981/82, John was also a European Cup Winners' Cup finalist in 1980 and was awarded an MBE in 1982. John scored 13 times in 173 games with us. Rest in peace."
