Mikel Arteta admitted Ethan Nwaneri has not played as much as he has deserved ahead of the teenager's imminent loan departure.

The Gunners have been in talks with Marseille to take Nwaneri on loan until the end of the season.

An agreement is believed to have been reached, but the 18-year-old was named on the Arsenal bench against Inter Milan on Tuesday night.

Nwaneri is expected to travel to undergo a medical on Wednesday to wrap up the loan move, which will see Arsenal receive a loan fee depending on the number of appearances he makes for Marseille.

Arteta stopped short of confirming Nwaneri's departure, but admitted he has not been getting the first-team involvement he needs.

"I don't know," Arteta said."We'll have a discussion this week. Obviously he's not having the minutes that probably he deserves as well and he needs at his age.

"We will address the situation and see what is best.

"Let's see. We have to sit down and discuss how we want to move that forward."

Nwaneri was an unused substitute as Arsenal beat Inter Milan 3-1 at the San Siro to make it seven wins from seven in the Champions League.

He started against Slavia Prague in November but has otherwise only had two appearances off the bench in Europe. Nwaneri is also yet to start a match in the Premier League this season.

The teenager is keen to experience life in a new environment and Arsenal have trusted Roberto De Zerbi and Marseille with his development.
