Arsenal make major Raphinha transfer decision as Edu moves closer to £65m deal

Arsenal are set to step up their efforts to sign Leeds United winger Raphinha next week, according to reports.

The Brazilian is a target for Edu this transfer window, with Gunners manager Mikel Arteta an admirer of the 25-year-old. Now, according to The Athletic, further conversations are scheduled with Raphinha's representatives next week as Arsenal look to step up their interest.

The report adds that Arsenal now appear to be "firm favourites" for Raphinha's signature. The development is a major blow to Barcelona, Chelsea and Tottenham, who have all reportedly registered interest in the player.

The Gunners have reportedly already had a bid rejected for the talented winger, although the north Londoners appear ready to return with a second offer next week. It's been reported that a bid of around £65m will be enough to prise the Brazilian away from Elland Road.

Raphinha, who scored 11 goals in 36 appearances for Leeds last season, has previously been coy when asked about his future at Elland Road, claiming that it is all up to his agent Deco and the Yorkshire-based club. "I have a contract with Leeds until 2024, my future is in the hands of Deco and Leeds," he said while on international duty with Brazil.

"I have my mind set on the national team, on the game and also on my vacations. I have a contract with Leeds and this issue is resolved by my agent. When there is something, he will tell me."

The news comes as Arsenal appear a step closer to signing Man City striker Gabriel Jesus. As per The Athletic, the Gunners will pay £45m to land the Brazil international - who has been a priority signing for Arteta - meanwhile, the Daily Mail have claimed that the deal is set to be wrapped up within the next 7-10 days which means in time for the club's first pre-season fixture against FC Nurnberg on July 8.
