Arsenal make £17m move to solve Mikel Arteta's Takehiro Tomiyasu right-back issue

Arsenal have reportedly made their first move to sign Galatasaray right-back Sacha Boey with an opening bid worth €20million (£17.2million).

The French defender has been mooted as a potential target at the Emirates Stadium in recent times. Mikel Arteta is understood to be considering a move for a new right-back this summer following an injury-riddled season for Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Ben White, naturally a centre-back, has been first-choice on the right of Arteta's backline this season. But William Saliba's season-defining injury in March saw the Gunners boss moving White back into his preferred position in the last few matches.

This season, Tomiyasu missed 17 games. The Japanese international's injury concerns have opened the possibility of another right-back arriving over the summer.

Boey, who recently helped Galatasaray to the Super Lig title, has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League after hitting the ground running since joining from Rennes in 2021.

And according to Turkish outlet Turkiye Gazetesi, Arsenal have submitted an opening bid worth €20million (£17.2million) for the 22-year-old and are "determined to finalise the transfer".

However, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has suggested there is yet to be any proposal made by the north Londoners, at this stage. He wrote on Twitter: "Arsenal have not made any proposal for Sacha Boey at this stage, despite reports. Been told there was no meeting with his new agents, just one of many players appreciated but not a negotiation as things stand."

Arsenal are in a positive position to sign Boey after he signed with CAA Stellar. The agency has overseen a number of high-profile moves in recent years including Jack Grealish's £100million move to Manchester City and Eduardo Camavinga's dream transfer to Real Madrid.
