Arsenal handed transfer boost over Manchester United in Pedro Neto race with huge admission

Arsenal have been handed a huge potential boost over Manchester United in their race to sign Wolves winger Pedro Neto this summer. The two clubs have been heavily linked with a move for the Wolves forward, who has shown impressive glimpses in his short career so far.

For the Gunners, it comes at a time where few changes are expected before the end of an already busy transfer window. Mikel Arteta has already made five signings before the end of pre-season, spending over £100million in having a squad ready to compete once again in the Premier League.

While incomings have since been quiet, there could still be some arrivals before the end of the window in early September. The manager has failed to rule out the possibility of more signings, claiming the club will remain active in the market and looking for opportunities.

One of those opportunities could be related to strength in the forward line, with reports claiming club-record signing Nicolas Pepe could be set for a loan move to OGC Nice. A bid for winger Raphinha was turned down earlier in the window, further substantiating a claim that the Gunners are looking to strengthen there.

One of the recent names linked for such a role is Neto, whose touch of class and forward thinking mentality has seen him catch the eye on plenty of occasions. With Arsenal and Manchester United locking horns once again in an attempt to sign the winger, the former will be hoping there's no repeat of the Lisandro Martinez saga they lost out on.

However, they may have been given a huge boost in their chances to land the 22-year-old. Speaking to Talksport back in January 2020, he revealed that Arsenal used to be the side he would support growing up.

"Arsenal," He said when pressed on his favourite team growing up. "Because with Arsene Wenger I thought they played - besides winning trophies - they played some very good football."

Should the winger be given the choice between the two sides this summer, it remains to be seen whether that could be a key factor in his decision. However, it certainly won't harm the Gunners' chances in landing Neto.
