Arsenal handed major Gabriel Magalhaes boost for Newcastle clash amid Tottenham top four race

Gabriel Magalhaes is set to start for Arsenal tonight despite his latest injury concerns. The Brazilian was forced to leave the field of play in the North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday night, but has since made a recovery.

It's a major boost for Arsenal who need to win to regain control of the Champions League race ahead of the final day of the season on Sunday.

Gabriel was substituted in the second half of the against Tottenham after appearing to damage his hamstring. He fell to the floor and clutched his upper leg.

Initially, Mikel Arteta suggested that the injury could've been a lot worse than it now seems: "We will know probably more tomorrow, so we wanted to extend this period as much as possible to understand how they are recovering, how they are feeling, assess them and tomorrow probably we will know more about how they are."

Luckily though, the Spaniard now has his favoured centre-back pairing fit for what is a vital clash in the race for top four. As Tottenham managed to beat Burnley on Sunday, they've temporarily climbed above the Gunners in the table.

Nevertheless, it's still in Arsenal's control as victories over Newcastle and then Everton on the final day will get the job done. It's an incredibly pressurised situation for Arteta's young team, but it'll be a huge confidence booster for Arsenal moving forward if they can get back into Europe's most elite competition.
