Arsenal may be handed a clear run at landing PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo amid a transfer warning to rivals Manchester United over the move. It comes as the Netherlands international continues to impress, contributing in 21 goals in just 14 league appearances this season.
It led to the 23-year-old earning a call-up from Louis Van Gaal for the Dutch national team squad to take part in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. His form has continued on the world stage too, scoring two crucial goals for his side in their two games so far as they eye qualification for the round of 16.
Gakpo could be an ideal addition to the Gunners in January as they sit top of the Premier League, but require further depth if they want to challenge late in the campaign. The wide areas are of particular concern, while the forward can play anywhere across the front line, so adds that versatility.

The performances of the Dutch international hasn't just impressed Arsenal, with rivals Manchester United also being linked with a switch. For the Red Devils, it comes as a potential move to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, who recently saw his contract terminated following an explosive interview.
While Gakpo is an option for both, former Tottenham and United striker Teddy Sheringham have warned his former club against making an offer. He told BoyleSports: "Man United do not need another flitty player like Gakpo in their ranks. We need a centre-forward who can lead the line now that Ronaldo has gone.
"We need a focal point for the team to hit and who can bring players into play. We cannot go for another technical player who can play as a winger or a false nine. We already have so many of those in Martial, Rashford and Sancho and right now it's a bit of a detriment to be honest."
Should that be a warning that is heeded by Manchester United, it could well give the Gunners a clear run at landing Gakpo in the transfer window.
