Arsenal dealt major transfer blow as Real Sociedad make Alexander Isak stance clear

Real Sociedad are confident that Arsenal target Alexander Isak will be staying at the club, according to recent reports.

The north London outfit are desperate to sign a striker given Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's future at the club is uncertain whilst both Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette are into the final six months of their respective deals with the club.

The Gunners had been pursuing Dusan Vlahovic before the Serbian eventually joined Juventus, with football.london reporting earlier this month that the player always favoured a move to a Serie A club.

Technical director Edu is said to be interested in both Lille frontman Jonathan David and Sociedad star Isak, with the latter spotted in London on Saturday, sparking a wave of excitement from Arsenal fans who thought the player could be on his way to the Emirates Stadium.

However, Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo have claimed that the La Liga side remain calm on the Swedish international's future and won't allow him to leave unless his €90million (£75.4million) release clause is met.

The report also says that no offers have arrived to Isak's agents as of yet, and Sociedad are counting on the 22-year-old to be at the club for the remainder of the campaign.

Still, when speaking to the Independent in November 2021, the former Borussia Dortmund ace admitted that he would like to play in the Premier League one day.

He said: "I'm in a good place at the moment, I’m very happy, but one day it would be nice to play in England as well.

"They have six or seven of the biggest clubs in the world, it’s a very high level, and of course one day it would be an alternative.

"Every player wants to be the best version of themselves and reach the highest possible level. I have expectations for myself that I’m trying to fulfil, so we’ll see where the journey takes me in future."
