Arsenal dealt major transfer blow as £70m-rated target 'rejects' advances

Arsenal have reportedly been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Leeds United winger Raphinha.

The Gunners are keen to bolster their frontline this summer as Mikel Arteta continues his rebuild at the Emirates Stadium. The Telegraph reported on Friday that the north Londoners are admirers of Leeds attacker Raphinha, who could cost up to £70million this summer, according to The Athletic.

It is claimed that Arteta is an admirer of the Brazilian international, although they may find it difficult to convince him to join them over Catalan giants Barcelona if recent reports are to be believed. Spanish newspaper Sport, via SportWitness, have claimed that the player and his agent Deco are 'stopping each and every offer' from other clubs as the talented wideman is said to have his heart set on a move to the Nou Camp.

The 25-year-old has claimed in recent days that his future isn't in his hands, admitting that former Chelsea star Deco and Leeds control what happens next in his career. "I have a contract with Leeds until 2024, my future is in the hands of Deco and Leeds," he said while on international duty with Brazil.

"I have my mind set on the national team, on the game and also on my vacations. I have a contract with Leeds and this issue is resolved by my agent. When there is something, he will tell me."

Meanwhile, Arsenal remain interested in signing Manchester City forward and fellow Brazilian Gabriel Jesus this summer, with technical director Edu holding talks with the player's representatives in recent months, football.london understands.
