Arsenal could sign the next Thierry Henry if Edu can complete £31.5million transfer

Arsenal could sign the next Thierry Henry if they are able to sign reported target Rafael Leao from AC Milan.

The Gunners are in need of a top-class forward after allowing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to leave in the January transfer window and football.london understands the club is currently monitoring Chelsea loanee Armando Broja's progress at Southampton.

Even if technical director Edu is able to convince the Blues to part ways with Broja, he will likely need to bring in another attacker given Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette are into the final five months of their contracts at the Emirates Stadium.

Now, Italian outlet La Repubblica have reported that the north Londoners are keen on Milan youngster Leao, who had notched ten goals and six assists across all competitions this season.

The 22-year-old, who is valued at £31.5million on Transfermarkt, has operated on the left flank this season but has also frequently played through the middle, similar to Arsenal starlet Gabriel Martinelli in some aspects.

And Leao has frequently been compared to Gunners icon Thierry Henry in the past, with the Rossoneri's manager Stefano Pioli likening the Portuguese international to the Frenchman last month.

"He reminds me so much of (Thierry) Henry," Pioli said when asked about the former Sporting Lisbon star.

"I think he has to convince himself and work hard on his head to try to be ambitious. One with his means must think of reaching the top of the world, but talent isn’t enough. He has understood that he has to work in a certain way."

Former Juventus star Alessio Tacchinardi, who played with Henry his time in Turin has also compared the two players in the past.

"The young Henry is the Leao of today," Tacchinardi told Tuttosport.

"The characteristics of the two players are the same: you see the pace in one-on-ones and they always go on the outside to break through the opponent’s defence.

"I was slaughtered on social media for this comparison. But just compare the videos and there’s nothing else to say, they’re the same."
