Arsenal confirm major coaching shake up as Mikel Arteta assistant Steve Round leaves club

Arsenal have confirmed that assistant coach Steve Round has left the club by mutual consent. Round had been with the club since Mikel Arteta's appointment in 2019 and played a key role in Arsenal's resurgence under the Spaniard.

In a statement to Arsenal colleagues sporting director Edu said: "As preparations for the new men’s season get underway we can confirm Steve Round has left the club by mutual agreement. Steve joined the club as part of our new coaching staff in December 2019 when Mikel started his role as Head Coach.

"During his time with us, Steve played an integral role working with our men’s first team players and helping the significant progress which we have made in recent seasons. We thank Steve for his contribution to Arsenal Football Club and wish him and his family all the best of health and happiness."

Albert Stuivenberg remains in place as Arteta's assistant. Coaches Carlos Cuesta and Miguel Molina also continue to be on the coaching staff at London Colney. It is not yet clear if Arsenal will look to directly replace Round as they prepare for the coming season.

Round had previously worked with Arteta during his playing days while serving as David Moyes' assistant at Everton. The 52-year-old has also worked at Manchester United, Newcastle and England as an assistant, while also serving as a technical director at Aston Villa for two years between 2016 and 2018.
