Arsenal 'concerned' about Liverpool Carabao Cup fixture being postponed again

Arsenal are reportedly concerned they may not have enough players available to face Liverpool this week, with another postponement potentially on the cards.

The Reds are due to face the Gunners on Thursday night in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final at the Emirates Stadium.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were held to a goalless draw in the first leg at Anfield last week, with there now being a one-leg shootout to decide who will face Chelsea in the Wembley Stadium final next month.

An outbreak of COVID at Liverpool forced the first leg of the tie, due to be played in London on January 6th, to be postponed.

According to iNews , Arsenal are not certain they will have enough players to put a team out to face Liverpool.

The Gunners had their weekend Premier League match against arch rivals Tottenham Hotspur postponed, with a combination of Covid cases, injuries and players away at the Africa Cup of Nations cited as reasons.

The report goes on to say that the situation at Arsenal remains the same, and that players are being assessed day by day with a decision expected to be made closer to the game.

Arsenal have loaned out Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Folarin Balogun this month, and have yet to add any players in the transfer market.

The Gunners also have five players away for AFCON, with Thomas Partey, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Nicolas Pepe, Mohamed Elneny and Omar Rekik all away with their respective countries.

And in the goalless draw at Anfield, midfielder Granit Xhaka was shown a straight red card which means he is also unavailable for selection.
