Stan Kroenke is on the cusp of lifting the Superbowl with the LA Rams in their recently constructed SoFi Stadium. Yet the Arsenal perspective on the potential glory remains shrouded in uncertainty.
Just reading the Arsenal owner’s name can change the mood of an Arsenal supporter. It is no secret that since Kroenke Sports Entertainment’s first involvement with the club in 2007, the club has fallen away from an established Champions League competitor, to desperately trying to fight their way back into European competition.
KSE completed a full takeover of the club in 2018 and since then major changes have taken place. Arsene Wenger has left, Unai Emery came and went and now Mikel Arteta is at the managerial helm.
It has been six years since The Rams returned to Los Angeles and the stars brought in, in addition to the new stadium, has seen them rise to potential NFL title winners.
“We worked on this project for a number of years and it’s wonderful to see it come to fruition. Reaching the big game, the big game in our house,” Kroenke told NFL Network having won the NFC Championship game.
“It means a lot to the area and we are proud of it. The economic benefits, I’m really proud of coming to Inglewood.”
football.london understands that the club are planning a significant outlay on players in the summer and look set to receive backing from Stan Kroenke.
Perhaps the feeling of reaching the top of the pyramid with the Rams has inspired KSE to attempt to summit the footballing heights and return Arsenal to the Champions League.
The infamous words of Josh Kroenke telling Arsenal fans to ‘Be excited’ will live long in the memory, certainly whilst there has been little to get excited about.
However, after the most money was spent in a summer window in 2021 compared to any previous transfer period in the club’s history, there is finally some hard evidence of investment into the right players and for the right reasons.
Mikel Arteta and Edu have been firm on what they want and despite no one joining the current squad this winter, the Spanish coach made it clear that money would only be spent on those they deemed worthy of joining the project.
“We did what we believed was the right thing to do. The squad composition and contracts were catching up, be fair with players who haven’t had a lot of minutes. We had a clear plan of what we can do but then it has to be doable,” said Mikel Arteta.
“Edu and his team have done a great job. We are very clear we only want the best people and the best players at this club. When we are in a rush and the reasons to get a player on board are not the right ones, we didn’t do it.”
Whether the outcome of the Superbowl will impact the direction of Arsenal and the commitment from KSE towards the club is unknown. Time will tell and the summer of 2022 could prove to be the biggest yet.
