Arsenal can sign their very own Luis Suarez if Edu completes £53.9m summer transfer

Arsenal are one of many clubs interested in Benfica striker Darwin Nunez, according to recent reports.

Mikel Arteta's side are in the market for at least one centre-forward after allowing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to leave for Barcelona during the January transfer window, with Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette also into the final five months of their deals at the Emirates Stadium.

Technical director Edu had been pursuing a move for Dusan Vlahovic during the winter window but as football.london previously reported the Serbian international always preferred a move to a top club in Serie A before eventually signing for Juventus, turning down a move to the Gunners.

Now, Italian outlet Calciomercato claim that the north Londoners are one of the club that are 'very attentive' to the aforementioned Nunez, who could reportedly cost up to €65million (£53.9million).

The report also states that the likes of Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, West Ham United and Manchester United are keen on attaining his services, as well as a number of clubs in Italy - who may be priced out of a move given Benfica's asking price.

Nunez has been compared to fellow Uruguayan international Luis Suarez in the past and ESPN even reported back in November 2020 that Barcelona had targeted the youngster as a replacement for the former Liverpool star.

Suarez has even previously revealed that he told the Blaugrana to try and bring his compatriot to the Camp Nou, something that the Catalan club refused to do.

The 34-year-old told Gerard Romero on Twitch in November 2021: "I said to [Barcelona]: 'Keep an eye on him'.

"He is very good and shows interesting approaches. They said he plays for Almeria and is too young.

"I have 15 years of international experience, I know a thing or two about attackers."
