Arsenal can fulfil Dominik Szoboszlai's transfer dream and finally complete two-year plan

There are a plethora of names that have been linked to Arsenal over the years but perhaps one of the most famous of the past couple of years is Dominik Szoboszlai, well, at least for me. The former Red Bull Salzburg star was of interest to the Gunners for some time. Still, in January of 2021, RB Leipzig secured the Hungarian international having agreed on a deal halfway through the previous month.

Arsenal would go on to sign Martin Odegaard in the January transfer window on loan before making the deal permanent the following summer. Fabio Vieira has also since arrived but the Portuguese youth international has struggled somewhat.

Arsenal still want to add an attacking midfielder this summer football.london understands and Szoboszlai certainly still fits the bill. Although at Leipzig he has played almost exclusively in the wide areas, but even then he would provide Mikel Arteta with further options.

Interestingly, despite being just 18 months into his time in the Bundesliga, Szoboszlai has opened up about moving on to the next level. In an interview with the Hungarian outlet Index, he spoke of trying to avoid regret when looking back on his career.

"If there is interest, I will consider it, not because I don't have a good time in Leipzig, but because I have always been interested in challenges," he said. "On one side of the scale is a good Leipzig, with a coach who trusts me and teammates who accept me and also believe in me.

“No footballer can wish for more than that. This is quite an extra situation.

"At the same time, on the other side, there is the question, if I can now take a step towards Europe's top five or six clubs, should I say no to the challenge? I've never been that type!

“I am in a very good position, as I can play in a fantastic club. However, I don't want 15 years from now to look back on my career as if I didn't get the most out of it."

Arsenal, with the way they pushed Manchester City this season and entering the Champions League next season, would certainly argue they are among the current top five or six clubs in 2023. The Gunners can offer a step up from Leipzig without question and the interest from them previously could hint that there remains a keenness.

His nine goals and thirteen assists this season demonstrate exactly the quality he’d add to Arsenal for next season. Although the price tag is sure to be significantly higher than the ~£20million the German side paid in 2021.
