Arsenal and Chelsea stars dominate London Football Awards as Sam Kerr bids to retain crown

Chelsea striker Sam Kerr and manager Emma Hayes are among the WSL stars in contention for prizes at this year's London Football Awards.

The annual awards are independently judged by figures across the game and aim to celebrate the very best of football in the capital over the course of a season. Kerr, who has notched six goals and two assists for Chelsea so far this term, is in the running to retain her FA Women’s Player of the Year crown, though she will face stern competition from teammate Millie Bright and Arsenal's Beth Mead - who scooped the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award in December.

Gunners captain Kim Little and West Ham's Dagný Brynjarsdóttir are also nominated for the prize, with both players currently enjoying stellar seasons in the Women's Super League. Chelsea's Lauren James, who has been a standout performer for the Blues this season, is up for the Women's Young Player of the Year Award, with Tottenham full-back Asmita Ale and West Ham's Izzy Atkinson making up the shortlist.

Arsenal's Laura Wienroither's strike against Manchester United is is also up for the Goal of the season award, which will be decided by public votes.

The winners will be announced on March 13 at the Roundhouse in Camden. All income raised from the night goes to charity Willow, which helps provide special days for seriously ill adults aged 16 to 40.
