Arsenal and Chelsea are interested in signing Everton star Amadou Onana after Frank Lampard was sacked. Graham Potter and Mikel Arteta are looking to sign a new central midfielder to bolster their respective squads heading into the second half of the season.
The Blues have already spent over £100million this month bringing in Mykhailo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile, Noni Madueke, Joao Felix, Andrey Santos and David Datro Fofana. The Gunners have added Leandro Trossard and Jakub Kiwior to Arteta's squad as they continue their Premier League title fight with Manchester City heading into the second half of the season.
Chelsea have been heavily linked with moves for Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo this month as they look to sign a new midfielder given the uncertainty surrounding N'Golo Kante's and Jorginho's futures at Stamford Bridge. Arsenal agreed personal terms with Youri Tielemans in the summer transfer window, as football.london reported last year, but now a move for his Belgian compatriot could be on the cards this month.

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the departure of Lampard paired with Everton's need to raise money could see Onana leave Goodison Park in January. The 21-year-old midfielder joined the Toffees in August after completing a £30million move to Merseyside from Lille.
Tavolieri states that both Arsenal and Chelsea have expressed an interest in the Belgian midfielder who has impressed in the short time spent at Everton. Nieuwsblad journalist Pieter-Jan Calcoen has backed up Tavolieri's claim and revealed that the only factor influencing Onana's potential transfer exit is whether Everton would want to sanction a deal that would see the 21-year-old leave just four months after joining the club.
According to CIES Football Observatory, Onana is valued at €30million (£26.4million) - though what price the Toffees would be prepared to sell at remains to be seen. Arsenal and Chelsea would likely jump at the chance to sign the Belgian defensive midfielder due to his low market value and attributes matching the player profile both clubs are looking to add to their midfield options.
