Arsenal have not been a side adept at earning a significant profit on player sales in the last decade. A marginal profit was made on both Matteo Guendouzi and Konstantinos Mavropanos this summer, but the pair went for a figure dramatically below their market value.
Arsenal have had some success in the market with sales, but they tend to be isolated moments. Joe Willock, Emi Martinez, Alex Iwobi, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain made the club good fees but were spread across five seasons.
The club are looking to move on a serious number in this window and could get some serious money coming into the side if they’re successful across most of the expendable talent. The group though is made up of several players not expected to make serious fees.

Bernd Leno, Hector Bellerin, Pablo Mari, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Alex Runarsson, Reiss Nelson and Lucas Torreira are not likely to earn more than £10million-£15million each. In some cases - such as Bellerin, Runarsson and Mari - the club would be lucky to get that. Hence the need to make a higher volume of sales.
However, with the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko for around £30million, it has encouraged Arsenal into a feeling of openness regarding the sale of Nuno Tavares. The left-back was signed for around £8million from Benfica last summer.
Despite some strong performances in the Premier League, Kieran Tierney remained unmoved until injury and Zinchenko’s switch to north London has near closed the door for Tavares. This has led to interest from outside grow in the 22-year-old.
Both Brighton and Atalanta have been credited with admiration for the player, but it is the Serie A side stepping up their moves for the player. According to Gazzetta Dello Sport via Sport Witness, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side have entered discussions with Arsenal.
The Gunners are said to value Tavares at more than three times what they bought his for. A €30million (£25.5million) valuation has been set on the full-back and the club prefer a dry loan if he is to leave only temporarily.
However, Atalanta, according to Di Marzio, want an option included in any potential loan. If Arsenal can negotiate a sale and get themselves a £20million-plus return on Tavares it would represent a seriously strong piece of business from the club.
A player who is far from the first team setup now and potentially covering more than two-thirds of what the team paid for Zinchenko. It would be a positive step for Edu and the club as they try to strengthen their reputation in this area of the market.
