'Arrogant' Beyoncé didn't ask permission before ripping Right Said Fred sample, band claim

Band Right Said Fred have hit out at Beyoncé, claiming the singer didn't ask for permission to sample their hit I'm Too Sexy in her song Alien Superstar off her new album Renaissance.

Brothers Fred and Richard Fairbrass branded the Crazy In Love songstress, 41, "arrogant" adding other big names in the industry such as Taylor Swift and Drake had got in touch to use rhythmic elements in Look What You Made Me Do and Way 2 Sexy, respectively.

Right Said Fred released their debut single I'm Too Sexy in 1991, peaking at number two in the UK charts and topping the charts in seven other countries.

Beyoncé's track Alien Superstar, meanwhile, released earlier this year has 9.8million views on YouTube and 71 million streams on Spotify.

"Normally the artist approaches us but Beyoncé didn't because she is such an arrogant person, she just had probably thought 'come and get me' so we heard about it after the fact when you did. But everyone else, Drake and Taylor Swift, they came to us," the band told The Sun.

"To use our melody they need our permission so they send us the demo and we approve it and if so we get a co-write credit, with this Beyoncé thing there are 22 writers it's ridiculous so we would get about 40p."

But the pair say they won't launch a legal battle with Beyoncé as she has "has a lot more presence and power and money".

"We cant stop it. There is nothing we can do. It is s***," they said. "You are going to get into a conversation with someone who has a lot more presence and power and money than we do. And that won’t go well. It’s best to let it go."

Mirror Online has contacted Beyoncé's representatives for comment.

Back in August, Beyoncé bagged her fourth solo UK number one album with Renaissance, making it her first chart-topper in six years.

The former Destiny's Child singer missed out on securing the chart double, however, with Break My Soul only reaching number two on the singles chart.

Renaissance, which is Beyoncé's seventh studio album, incorporates house music and Afrobeats and outsold its closest competition three to one to nab the top spot.

The songstress has previously topped the UK charts on three occasions as a solo artist – with Dangerously In Love (2003), 4 (2011) and Lemonade (2016).

As a member of Destiny’s Child, she reached number one with Survivor in 2001.
