Arriva bus drivers' historic pay win is ray of hope in these difficult times
There has been a huge outpouring of support and celebration after news broke of an historic pay victory for Arriva bus drivers.
It was announced yesterday that the continuous strike of Arriva drivers will be suspended after 29 days after the company and unions came to an agreement for an 11.1% pay rise. This will now be voted on by members, who are being advised to accept it by the GMB and Unite unions.

It is a huge victory for striking drivers who first walked out back on July 20 and have stuck firmly to their guns in the battle for a better deal. News of the win was met with support across Merseyside - as well as relief for those who have been unable to access public transport for the past month.

Man, 22, shot dead just a few streets from scene of unsolved murder
A man was shot dead in Dingle less than half a mile from the scene of an unsolved murder.
Lavrock Bank is at the centre of a murder investigation after a man was found with a gunshot to his upper body shortly before midnight on Tuesday, August 16. The 22-year-old was given CPR by police at the scene until paramedics arrived and took him to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Lavrock Bank and the adjacent Harlow Street were sealed off by police on Wednesday as detectives and forensics carried out their enquiries. The scene of the murder probe is just a few streets away from where Liam Kelly was shot dead in the early hours of June 19, 2004.

The 16-year-old was hit by a bullet to the chest and another to his right arm as he got out of a friend's silver Vauxhall Astra car on Grafton Street, close to the junction of Draycott Street, in 2004.
The murder of Liam Kelly remains unsolved 18 years later and police's prime suspect is Liverpool's most wanted man Kevin Parle, who has been on the run for the last 17 years. Police believe Mr Kelly was approached by two men from different directions, both armed with guns
Following his death in 2004, several people, including Parle, were arrested in connection with the murder. Parle was released on bail - which he failed to answer - and has been subject to repeated appeals from law enforcement agencies.

Barred customer threatened pub worker with baseball bat
A customer assaulted a barmaid and threatened her with a baseball bat after she ordered him to leave a pub.
David Chelkowski was already banned from entering the Peacock pub in Kirkdale when he caused chaos there in a series of visits over a single day.
The 42-year-old dad, who was so drunk he couldn’t remember the incident afterwards, avoided prison on Wednesday August 17 after a judge at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court handed him a second chance.

Nastassia McAdam, prosecuting, told the court Rebecca Manley was working at the bar on the evening of May when she saw Chelkowski and a friend come in. She later told police she noticed Chelkowski’s friend appeared to have injuries and Chelkowski himself was acting extremely aggressively.
They almost immediately began disrupting other customers, with Chelkowski trying to drink from other customers’ drinks. Ms Manley then realised both men were banned and she threw them out. While they did leave, Chelkowski later came back and assaulted the woman, grabbing her by the arms and pushing her.
