A District Court judge in Aurora, Colorado, has signed two arrest warrants for suspects involved in a viral surveillance video showing armed men rushing an apartment building. The suspects, Edilson Yoel Pena-Angulo, 25, and Danyeer Aramillo-Meneses, 23, are wanted for their involvement in a shooting on August 18 and their appearance in the security camera footage.
The suspects are facing felony charges of first-degree burglary and menacing with a firearm. While ten Venezuelan nationals linked to the Tren de Aragua gang have been arrested recently, the six suspects in the video are not connected to any criminal organization, according to Aurora Police.
The warrants were signed by an Arapahoe County District Court judge on Monday. Operation Safe Haven, a task force within the Aurora Police Department investigating crimes against the local migrant community, submitted the arrest warrants.
Of the six armed men seen in the video, five have been identified, with one suspect, Naudi Lopez-Fernandez, 21, already in custody. Investigators are actively searching for the remaining suspects with the help of law enforcement partners.
Authorities are also working to identify the last suspect, with plans to issue a warrant for his arrest in the future. Colorado, designated a sanctuary state in 2019, and Denver, a sanctuary city, do not cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Despite the ongoing investigation, Aurora City Council Member Danielle Jurinsky expressed frustration at police leadership for allegedly undermining efforts to combat gang-related crime. The office of Governor Jared Polis and the Aurora Police Department have not commented on the situation.
