Arrest after man found injured in Scottish village dies in hospital

A MAN in his 50s has died in hospital after being found injured in an Ayrshire village.

Police closed off a section of Dundonald's Main Street in the early hours of Sunday, August 23 after an incident in the village where the 57-year-old was found injured and unresponsive

One resident told the Advertiser police had taped off the street, with CID detectives and forensic officers observed on the scene.

Police have since confirmed a 57-year-old man died after being taken to Crosshouse Hospital.

A 36-year-old man has since been arrested in connection with the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "At around 4.05am on Sunday, August 23, we were called to a report of an unresponsive man with injuries on Main Steet in Dundonald.

"Emergency services attended and the 57-year-old man was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock where he died a short time later. His family is aware.

"The death is currently being treated as unexplained.

"A 36-year-old man has been arrested in connection with assault and enquiries are ongoing.

"Officers remain in the area and anyone with any information or concerns can approach them.

"A road closure is in place on Main Street. Please avoid the area if possible."
